5 Reasons To Explore Johor Bahru (Post-MCO)

Entering the fourth week of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Johor Bahru, boredom might now be the new normal. These are the moments where we start to regret the places we never explored before the MCO.

For a person who is always locked-in doing assignments or studying for tests, I regret not exploring the city of Johor Bahru before. But hey, we will get through this and when Malaysia wins the war against COVID-19, I’m definitely going to explore this city!

Malaysia’s second largest city after Kuala Lumpur and southernmost city in the peninsula, JB has re-branded itself from a small border town to a sophisticated, rising star in tourism and business. The city is connected to Singapore via a causeway and is steadily shaping into a rival of its neighboring city-state.

Here are some of the reasons why JB is a fun place to explore:

1. Old is Gold

JB has its own collection of pre-war and colonial buildings. From mosques that are over a hundred years old, like the Sultan Abu Bakar Mosque to JB’s Old Chinese Temple built in 1875, this capital city is filled with sites that are a treat for history and architecture buffs.

2. Fun for Everyone

JB also has a recreational waterfront area called Danga Bay which is being developed bit by bit. Right now, there are golf courses, paintball parks, and motorsports activities in and around Danga Bay, which is also a conservation area.

3. Wildlife in the City

Make your way to Johor Safari Park at Jalan Gertak Merah and get to admire the flora and fauna within eyesight distance. Located in the core of Johor Bahru, this zoo has over 100 species of animals such as gorillas, elephants, horses. What’s more interesting is the range of exotic birds such as flamingos and wildlife that could be found here. Getting connected with the creatures of Mother Nature is way more relaxing than you could imagine. The zoo is not just clean and well organized, but it also provides food stalls where you can treat yourself after the long walk.

4. Challenging and Fascinating

If you desire for adrenaline-pumping, heart-stopping, high octane action, come by Austin Heights Water & Theme Park in JB. It was opened in late 2015. A fascinating Austin Heights Water & Adventure Park is ready to immerse you with its exotic tropical theme design. Colorful and vibrant decorations feed your sight while savoring spectacular sunsets over the waters with an easy-breezy style. Beside the water theme park, Austin Heights serves the adventure rope course which will satisfy your desires. It guarantees maximum thrill for visitors with 7-course routes consisting of 51 types of obstacles designed for first-time-players and thrill-seekers. Besides the adrenaline-filled activities, Austin Heights presents an exciting range of Sports and Leisure indoor fun with Drift Kart, Indoor Trampoline Centre and Ice Skating Rink.

5. Shopping Heaven

Of course, I didn’t forget those who love shopping. Komtar JBCC is a shopping mall attraction in Johor Bahru. It is located adjacently to the Johor Bahru City Square. Komtar JBCC is the premier destination for shopping and entertainment, in Southern Malaysia. It has 130 retail outlets. If brands like Dior, Pandora, and Sephora excite you, then Komtar Johor Bahru City Centre is the place to be!

One of my favorite places in JB is the Mid Valley Mall. All that I can say about this place is you will find anything you want from global restaurants to international brands and even cinema this is the best place to hangout .
